Fray's Ayaya Cube

Fray's Ayaya Cube is the MTGO Cube as of 17 July 2024... sorta? It's a snapshot in time! (Except when he adds new cards) Anyway, its a vintage cube and all the proxies are anime cuties... so, you know...

Peasant Oldborder

The best premodern era (4th to scourge) cards printed at common or uncommon at some point. The goal is powerful, but not broken. A nice playground for old cards that used to be good enough, but have lost their place in modern era cubes or eternal formats. Have fun building around a broken enchantment, various graveyard stuffs, cycling, beatdowns or goblins. The draft is squishy and it's easy to build your own archetypes. The gameplay is very interactive, with lots of oldschool patterns such as the balance between creatures with regeneration and ways to negate that advantage, or just old under loved keywords like banding.

The Ballpit

What if you had to draft all of your lands? What if you had to run every card that you picked? What if every single card could be cast face-down as a copy of Chromatic Sphere? If that intrigues you, then jump on into... (the cubecon 2025 version of) THE BALLPIT!

FAQ

What is Cube Draft?
A cube is a curated collection of MTG cards selected to provide a balanced and diverse drafting pool.

Cube drafts typically play out like any other draft: players recieve 3 packs of cards, each pack is drafted 1 card at a time, and a deck is created from your draft pool + basic lands.

However, unlike other "official" MTG formats, there are no fixed rules in cube drafts. Cards in a cube can be from any set, have any rarity or power level, and have any format legality! Cube owners can also choose to mix up the draft structure or include special "house rules" which can be in effect during matches.

This format is a favorite among MTG enthusiasts for its flexibility, creativity, and the chance it gives to revisit or repurpose older cards in new ways.

Examples of Cube Types
  • Vintage: The most powerful cards and degenerate strategies in MTG history. Often includes the Power Nine and power-adjacent cards (sol ring, time vault, etc).
  • Legacy: Excludes cards restricted or banned in Legacy. Powerful cards, but without the brokenness that can be found in a Vintage Cube.
  • Theme or Tribal: These cubes can be based around specific creature types (e.g. elves, goblins) or may have recurrent themes, like artifacts or graveyard synergies.
  • Budget: A $$$-restricted enviornment that provides a lower-power experience. Games tend to go a little longer and have a little more interaction. Includes pauper and artisan cubes (commons only, or commons and uncommons only).
  • Set: Aims to include cards only from specific sets or blocks to recapture those special draft enviornments from days past.

Btw, these drafts are phantom. You will need to give the cards back afterwards :P

When and Where do you play?
We meet at 6:00pm, on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, at the IWinGames shop in Waipio.

94-1144 Ka Uka Blvd Suite 12, Waipahu, HI 96797
Can I just show up? Is there an entry fee?
Yes! Show up! There is no entry fee, all of our games are hosted free of charge and we provide everything you need to play.

As a courtesy you can join our Discord and let us know you're coming. But it's not required.
What if there are too many people?
We always have a backup cube on hand to handle overflow participants but it may not be similar in playstyle to what's on the schedule. You can reserve a spot for the main cube by letting us know you're gonna show up on our Discord.
Which cubes do you play?
We have the following in consistent rotation, but are always looking to playing new cubes. Just let us know what you want to play or bring!
Can I bring my Cube to play?
Sure, feel free to bring your own cube. Although, we don't usually have enough regulars to consistently fill a second cube... If you want to get on the schedule and have your cube be the main event, let us know on Discord.
